Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the eyelids. This surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, and is designed to rejuvenate the area around the eyes, providing patients with a more rested and youthful appearance.
Types of Blepharoplasty:
Upper Blepharoplasty: Involves the removal of excess skin and the correction of eyelid ptosis (drooping) to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids.
Lower Blepharoplasty: Focuses on removing under-eye bags, reducing puffiness, and smoothing out wrinkles under the eyes. Lower blepharoplasty can be performed using the classic method, which includes skin removal, or through a transconjunctival approach (incisions inside the lower eyelid).
Periorbitoplasty: A combination procedure aimed at rejuvenating the skin structure around the eyelids or eye area, often for comprehensive facial rejuvenation
Recovery: Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common, typically subsiding within one to two weeks.
Activity Restrictions: Patients are advised to avoid heavy activities, lifting, and activities that strain the eyes (such as reading or watching TV) during the initial recovery period.
It is essential to have a consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon to thoroughly discuss the patient’s goals, medical history, and determine the best possible outcome of the surgical procedure.
